The importance of a competency-based management model

Some time ago, I collaborated with a service company to develop a competency-based management model, and it was one of the best projects I’ve ever delivered. The synergy within this team was indescribable.

This is an integral management model. It provides an opportunity to align our employees with the business strategy.

In the competency-based management model, we identify the capabilities, knowledge, aptitudes, and skills required for a person to successfully perform a specific role, ensuring that a company’s employees are aligned with the business strategy.

To understand the type of organization, its advantages and resources, the challenges it faces, and the competencies model to be created, it is essential to understand and know the following:

  • The business’s strategic vision: the model should be related to the organizational philosophy.
  • The processes, flowcharts, tasks, and functions of each role within the business structure.
  • The structure, financial, technological, material, managerial, and human systems that support employees in successfully performing their duties.
  • The individual and group competencies required for successful performance in a specific role.
  • Knowledge management: the cyclical process in which employees learn and the organization benefits.
  • Organizational culture: the environment shaped by socio-cultural conditions that enable the creation and application of the competencies model.

What characterizes a modern organization is the capacity and professionalism of its employees, especially its leaders. Creating competitive advantages to survive in a global world is essential.

All competencies can be developed, and our strategic ally in doing so will be building a solid training program.

Until the next post. Thank you for following me!
